Easy Last-Minute Halloween Costume Ideas with Free Country

Get ready to make Halloween magic with what you already own!

Happy Halloween! Fellow procrastinators, if you're like us, you may find yourself in need of a last-minute costume. Don't fret! We've got some quick and budget-friendly solutions for you that won't require a midnight quest to the store. We conjured up some creative and fun costume ideas that use your existing wardrobe, plus a few of our favorite Free Country pieces. These ideas are so easy to put together, your only worry will be what candy to eat first!

Marty McFly
Marty McFly, the time-traveling hero from Back to the Future (which is currently a new show on Broadway, too!) is a beloved character recognized by his iconic ‘80s style. To channel Marty's rad ensemble, raid your closet for the following pieces:

  • Blue jeans
  • Checkered shirt
  • Down vest (our FreeCycle puffer version is also a perfect match!)
  • Denim jacket
  • White sneakers
  • Your kid’s skateboard (or a prop one made from cardboard)

Rosie the Riveter
We're all about female empowerment, so step back in time and embody the inspiring spirit and resilience of Rosie the Riveter. You'll not only pay homage to a pioneering figure but also honor the enduring strength of women throughout history. Emulate her bold and determined look using these pieces:

  • Chambray button-down
  • Jeans or a blue jumpsuit
  • Red or white bandana
  • Worker boots (don’t forget comfy socks!)
  • Red lipstick
  • Name tag (an easy DIY or print one for free here)

Forest Ranger
Embrace the call of the wild by transforming into a noble forest ranger, the unsung heroes dedicated to protecting and preserving our natural landscapes. Create a look that celebrates your love for the great outdoors with these essential items:

  • Green or khaki cargo pants
  • Plaid shirt (our forest green flannel is a flawless fit)
  • Wide-brimmed hat
  • Hiking boots
  • A toy or prop walkie-talkie or binoculars
  • A small wildlife plush animal

Hippie
Halloween is the perfect time to let your free spirit shine, and what better way to do that than by embracing the peace, love and groovy vibes of the ‘60s? To bring out your inner flower child and create a far-out hippie look that will transport you back to the Age of Aquarius, you’ll want:

  • Bell-bottom pants or wide-leg jeans
  • Tie-dye shirt
  • A fabulous jacket (may we suggest our super cozy and comfy pink sherpa style)
  • Round sunglasses
  • Beaded necklaces
  • Flower crown (make your own with blooms from your garden)

 Chef
Whether you’re the family cook or you’re obsessed with Jeremy Allen White’s character from The Bear on Hulu, a chef is an easy costume to put together. To amp up the ensemble, incorporate fake food props like a plush turkey leg or toy lobster, and carry around a small chalkboard or a menu board where you can write playful Halloween-themed dishes. To turn into a culinary maestro you’ll need:

  • An apron (Carmen’s is navy blue)
  • Plain white T-shirt or button-up
  • Comfy shoes
  • Black straight-fit pants
  • Accessorize with a kitchen towel and cooking utensils
